About Mark
Mark Goldthorp has been working with
puppets for sixteen years. Mark was first introduced to the Muppet/Sesame
street-style puppetry starring as Nicky/Trekkie for 2yrs in the West End in the
award-winning Avenue Q. Mark learnt from puppet master Nigel Plaskitt.
Mark has subsequently been involved in
many productions as a puppet performer/ coach and director.
Mark’s puppetry can be seen on the
award-winning My Family. Mark worked with Rachael Canning’s beautiful
puppets on the Oliver award-winning Into the woods at Regent’s Park. Operating
the cow milky white.
Mark’s puppetry was at the heart of the
launch of a new video platform for one of world’s leading media agencies
Mindshare, owned by WPP.
Mark recently worked with the legendary
Toby Olie (Warhorse) on the award-winning Mary Poppins from
2019-2023 operating and voicing the 20ft Punch puppet in the musical number Playing
the Game. Mark’s voice can be heard on the 2019 Definitive recording of
Mary Poppins.
Mark used puppetry in his own
productions of Into the Woods and Merrily we roll along both
performed at the Lost theatre.
Mark also teaches puppetry all over the
world. He has run Avenue Q workshops from NYC to Belfast. He has most recently
been running puppet workshops up and down the country and is developing his own
children’s puppet show called Fuzzytown.
Next Mark will be travelling to Nice in
November with Arts International as puppet consultant on a production of
Carol-ann duffy’s Grimm Tales to be performed in 2024.
